A quick preview from my next story — 10 Comments

  1. Yeay! A Sequel to BOD! and the glimpse or should I say teaser is sounding excellent. My problem now is trying to remain patient as I wait for more.
Thomas’s charater shows promise and I love that Mary has a litte defiance in her (leaving her bonnet and gloves under a tree) and that she misses parts of her former life. It gives her a bit of an edge somewhat like Lizzy.
I can’t wait for more….I know! I know! be patient.

  2. Abigail, anything you write next will be most appreciated! I love this story opening (wish I could help you on titles, but I am — sadly — not your best bet :). Looking forward to the AustenFest drawings tonight and to seeing you in D.C. next week!!

  3. Abigail, BoD is such a wonderful story and I am so glad to see you are going to do a sequel. It should be just as exciting!
Thanks for all your stories! I love them!

  4. your Mary sounds very interesting. not something the typical staid and boring Mary would do. I like that there is another Bennet sister who enjoys long walks and offers help to animals in distress.
And of course Thomas should say the most inappropriate things. Think Mary a servant and be oh so surprised when he meets the proper Miss Bennet.

  5. This sounds quite interesting! I only recently came across your Pride and Prejudice variations when I read Impulse and Initiative. I loved it! I am hoping to read the rest of them soon! 🙂

  6. Hi Abigail,
How great you’re now working on a sequel to BOD. You’ve created wonderful characters, it will be exciting to see what they do. I hope D&E will knock on their door and make an appearance 🙂 Thank you for continuing to share your work in progress with us, it’s greatly appreciated.

  7. Oh, wow- I don’t visit in an age, and when I return, you’ve started a new story. Right off the bat, I’m very intrigued/pleased with the reality of it: that Mary, while appreciating her recent elevation in rank and status, misses her previous freedom. Maybe because I can’t quite imagine how truly terrible her place in life was before Darcy rescued her it’s hard for me not to totally empathize with the shackles her new station binds her with. While she’s undoubtedly safe from lecherous rapist earls and their sons (unless she’s unlucky enough to marry one…), from poverty and its attendant terrors, she is now bound by decorum, which as you’ve shown us before can be a pretty harsh jailer. And, the cell must be much more confining for any woman, let alone one of dubious pedigree and no personal wealth.

I’m really curious to see where this story takes you, and whose perspective you’ll show us. I’m quite intrigued to think you might focus on the Marquis and the earl’s (wrong-side-of-the-blanket, unwanted and denied– but still) daughter, folks who by birth and upbringing come with vastly different ideals and issues than Darcy and Elizabeth.

Thanks for your generosity in sharing both the fruits of your labors and the process of those labors with us. As always, I can’t wait to read more.

I hope this finds you and your muse well and enjoying summer,

    Kathleen

  8. Abigail, I’m so excited that you have started the sequel! And thank you posting the previews. I can’t wait to see the direction you will take us. It’s always a wonderful ride.
    Thanks again for sharing, Theresa

  9. My computer got very sick and I have been out of touch for a while. I am SO happy to be able to find out you are working on the sequel to your marvelous ‘Bounds of Decorum’. (My favorite after FLTL)
I was very, very intrigued by the excerpts of what you have written so far.
You always say you have trouble thinking of titles for your books. So at the risk of you trying to hack into my computer to keep me quiet, I offer this suggestion for your latest effort…..
    Prometheus Unbound
(sorry ’bout that, mea culpa, and all that jazz.)
