Birthday Presents for You!
‘We have now another girl, a present plaything for her sister Cassy and a future companion. She is to be Jenny.” – George Austen on Jane Austen’s birth.
No one could have possibly missed that December 16 is Jane Austen’s 250th birthday. And I’m celebrating with presents for you – my biggest freebie ever plus some exciting giveaways!
I had great plans for this post about the significance of the day, but the world and the internet are drowning in that sort of thing right now. So I’m just going to say that if Jane Austen hadn’t been born 250 years ago, my life would have been very different, from the college I chose, the lifelong friends I made there, and all the comfort and pleasure I had from constantly re-reading her books. And that’s before I accidentally ended up writing Austenesque fiction. Happy Birthday, Jane!
I can’t give Jane Austen a present, so instead I’m heaping gifts on you, her readers. Everybody gets 4 free e-books, plus I’m giving away lots of Jane Austen ornaments (US only, sorry) and e-books of my new Christmas novella, Under the Netherfield Mistletoe (international). I’ve never done such a big freebie, but it is a very special day!
First, the giveaways! Six lucky commenters will get one of these beautiful Jane Austen ornaments, designed and printed by my daughter. Another three commenters will get an ebook of Under the Netherfield Mistletoe. Tell me which one you want, or if it’s either one. Comment both here and Austen Variations for two chances. Mention which of my books is your favorite for an extra chance!
Here are the books everyone can get for free today. Some are Amazon only, some are available widely. Please check prices before you download – I can’t guarantee that every retailer has adjusted the price!
Mr. Darcy’s Journey – Darcy must rescue an imprisoned friend, but he didn’t count on having Elizabeth Bennet in his carriage! Amazon only through 12/19
The Darcys of Derbyshire – Elizabeth is shocked when the man she had bitterly refused offers to accompany her on a walk up the Black Rocks near Matlock. But that’s nothing to the surprise of hearing the story of his parents’ courtship – especially as it makes her see Darcy in a completely new light. Amazon only through 12/19
Conceit & Concealment – Free everywhere but Amazon, $0.99 at Amazon. Mr. Darcy might have rescued Elizabeth Bennet, but she despises all traitors, and that includes Darcy. It’s been 5 years since Napoleon invaded England and imposed a French military rule. Little does she know he has a secret mission, and she’s about to be caught up in an astonishing and romantic adventure that will save her country. Free at Kobo, Apple Books, Tolino and more. Amazon would only mark down to $0.99, but you can get it free through Kobo or elsewhere and then e-mail it to your kindle. Through 12/20
The Darcy Brothers – Theo Darcy is everything his disapproving elder brother, Fitzwilliam, is not—charming, easy-going, and full of fun. A tragic event as children severed their bond of friendship, but now they are together again. They are still at odds, though, this time over the love of Miss Elizabeth Bennet. Which one will she choose? This fun and heartwarming tale features the popular Theo Darcy. I co-wrote it with four talented writers – Monica Fairview, Maria Grace, Cass Grafton, and Susan Mason-Milks – and it has a special place in my heart. Free everywhere including Amazon, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, Tolino, and most other online booksellers through 12/20
Note: None of these books contain mature scenes.
Don’t forget to comment if you’d like a Jane Austen ornament or an e-book of Under the Netherfield Mistletoe! Entries close Dec. 22. And Happy Birthday to Jane!

You want us to tell you which of your stories is our favorite?! Impossible! They’re all awesome.
And I’m very excited that you have a new story out, even if it is ‘only’ a novella. So, I’d choose that, if I were chosen to win the giveaway.
Thank you! I am interested in the novella.
I would love an ornament; I already own most of your books! I love all your books that I’ve read. My favorites are probably the Fitzwilliam Darcy, Mage series. Have a lovely Christmas!
Hi Brenda! I agree with you, the ornament would be wonderful. I love A.R. Novels too, first ones I read when I was a teenager. Happy Holidays!
Thank you so much for the free books! Personally, my Favorite of your books, or at least the one I have read the most, is Mr. Darcy’s Enchantment. I bought Under the Netherfield Mistletoe and it was excellent! I would appreciate an ornament, though! Merry Christmas and Happy birthday to Jane!
Thank you very much! I am looking forward to reading and listening to these four of your books!
I’d love to have the e-book, Under the Netherfield Mistletoe!
Oh, how fortunate I am to have come across your work on the internet! I started reading Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice in my sophomore year—it is arguably her most celebrated work, and even today, countless fans, driven by their love for it, write fanfiction inspired by the story. This year marks the 250th anniversary of Austen’s birth, and I recently watched the BBC documentary The Birth of a Genius, which was exceptionally well made. I was deeply moved by the bond between Jane Austen and her sister, Cassandra. I also feel incredibly lucky to have had the chance to read overseas authors’ “what-if” fanfiction based on her works, as well as sequels depicting the married daily life of Darcy and Elizabeth. These creations are not only acts of creativity but also forms of tribute. If the Land of the Dead from Coco truly exists, then Jane Austen will continue to live on in people’s hearts through these ever-growing works.
I’m lucky to own all the books that are on sale now, yay! And I’m really looking forward to reading the Christmas book. But if I were to win, I’d love an ornament. It’s pretty hard to choose a favorite of your books. There are so many scenes from your books that are my favorite JAFF scenes. I think my current favorite is Conceit and Concealment, oh for so many reasons.
Happy Jane Austen’s Birthday. Merry Christmas. Blessings for the coming New Year.
I’d like to enter to win a ornament.
Jane Austen ornament please. Thank you.
I have come here to double my chances of winning an ebook 🙂 Thanks again for the giveaway.
My favourite book of yours is ‘Mr Darcy’s Obsession’. I was actually reading a book of yours this morning to celebrate Jane Austen’s birthday. I started off with one of the free stories you recently gave away as part of the Austen Variations advent calendar, which sucked me into ‘A Pemberley Medley’!
Hi Abigail,
Nice to stop by your blog!
Thanks for the Janeites birthday gifts! It seems Santa Claus has come to my house sooner this year!
I would like to win a copy of “Under the Netherfield mistletoe”. I´ve just put a comment in the post of Austen Variations 😉
A big hug!
Happy Birthday to Jane!! I love her books and I love your books! I would love a copy of the novella if I am a lucky winner! Thank you!!
Having just begun to read Austenesque fiction in 2025, I have several of your books but specifically love your book Mr. Darcy’s Refuge. If by chance I am selected to win, I would love the Christmas ornament. I most recently read and enjoyed your novella, Under the Netherfield Mistletoe. Thank you!
I mentioned one of my favorite by you on the Austen site . Another favorite of mine is The Man Who Loved Jane Austen.
Again I am ok with either prizes but the ornament is my top choice.
Thank for your generosity. I would love to win either the ornament or the ebook. My favorite book is To conquer Mr Darcy.
I own Under the Netherfield Mistletoe, and loved it! So I will ask for a chance to receive the ornament! I love so many of Abigail’s books, and probably the one I like best currently is Alone with Mr Darcy.
Taking the chance for Under the Netherfield Mistletoe! ebook because I already own the 4 freebies. Much appreciation for offering them though!
🙂
Wendy
Thank you so much. What an amazing birthday celebration!
I would love to win the beautiful Jane Austen ornament, but of course I would not say no to the Mistletoe book.
A Matter of Honor is one of my favorites.
I love that so many of us around the world have been blessed by our favorite author and we can celebrate her birthday today! What a generous gift to everyone!!! I have almost all of your books except for the newest one “Under the Netherfield Mistletoe” but it is on my wishlist.
I would love one of these ornaments! My favorite book by you is Mr. Darcy’s Obsession, although it was hard to pick!
Happy birthday, Jane Austen!! Thank you for the free books – here I had missed one of your books and I didn’t realize it (the one with the brothers). I would love an ornament if possible but if not I just enjoy reading (and listening on audible) your books. All of your books are wonderful but I think By Force of Instinct is my favorite. I have it in paperback, kindle and audible. Thank you for your wonderful writing. Happy holidays.
Happy Birthday Jane Austen! Thank you for the free books, I am ready to dive in and begin reading them. I had not seen the one about the brothers so I am looking forward to reading that one in particular. I have your books Darcy’s Enchantment and Conceit and Concealment on Audible and love them both as well as the latest Mage books. Darcy’s Enchantment and Conceit and Concealment are two of my favorites. I would like to receive “Under the Netherfield Mistletoe” if possible. I am a big fan of your writings and hope you continue for many years to come. Wishing you a very Happy Holiday and New Year.
Thank you so much! I look forward to reading the two i didn’t already have.
Thank you for this celebration of Jane Austen’s birthday! I would be thrilled to win either the ornament or the ebook. The Fitzwilliam Darcy, Mage, books may be my favorites of yours, but I’ve enjoyed many!
Entering 😊 thank you! I would prefer the ornament please, although it was a tough choice (I figure I’ll probably just purchase the book anyway 😉) … I think my favorite book is the first one of yours I read, Mr. Darcy’s Obsession! Thanks you again.
I would love the ornament! My favorite book is the first one I read “The Last Man in the World”.
Hi would love the new book as own all of yours my favourite is Mr Darcy’s refuge.
